Pola 4.0
View the collectionComing from fashion, Pola 4.0 makes portraits in the form of Polaroids in Lille, halfway between photography, painting and material.

A name borrowed from the Polaroid
A French visual artist based in Lille, Pola 4.0 first worked in fashion, which left her with a sense of framing, pose, light and staging. Self-taught as an artist, she has spent around ten years exploring how an image is built and what it makes us feel. Her pseudonym nods to the Polaroid format, whose white frame and caption line she borrows: each piece carries its number and signature, like an instant print enlarged to the scale of a wall.
Photography, painting and material
Her works blend photography, digital composition, stencils, painting and material interventions, often on plexiglass, aluminium or Dibond. Depth, transparency and light draw the eye in, while relief and touches of paint change how the image reads. She refuses to be confined to a single artistic category.

Five series
Les Reines intérieures (Inner Queens) move the codes of portraiture and the baroque trappings of power into the intimate: sovereignty does not come from the gaze of others, it is carried within. Les Amazones modernes (Modern Amazons) transpose the mythological figure into the contemporary imagination, with surfers in whom freedom and vulnerability go hand in hand. Les Indomptés (The Untamed), in neo-baroque and aluminium versions, focuses on personalities whose singularity came before the icon. Entre les lignes (Between the Lines) questions the line and the screen of the image, where recognising a face plays out between what we see and what escapes us. Les Mécaniques de lumière (Mechanics of Light) is devoted to classic cars.

Exhibitions and fairs
Her work is shown in galleries and contemporary art fairs in France, Belgium and Switzerland: solo show at Galerie Métamorphose in Le Touquet-Paris-Plage (October 2024), solo show at Galerie 337 in Megève (February 2024), Lausanne Art Fair (October 2023), solo show at Galerie Nassau 42 in Antwerp (from autumn 2021 to January 2022), as well as the Art’Up and Solid’Art fairs in Lille.
